What’s the best time to tour Malaysia? In 2025

What’s the best time to visit Malaysia? It depends on which area of the country you plan to see.

Malaysia has become the most visited country in South Asia. From the busy streets of Kuala Lumpur to the peaceful beaches of Langkawi and the lush rainforests of Borneo, Malaysia offers something for everyone.

I can help you figure out the best time to visit Malaysia and make the most of your Southeast Asian adventure.

(Malaysia has two large regions: East Malaysia, which is made up of the two states Sabah and Sarawak, and West (or Peninsular) Malaysia, which has both an east and a west coast. These two main parts of the country are separated by the South China Sea by about 400 miles and are bordered by Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Brunei.)

Peninsula Malaysia:

East Coast (Tioman, Perhentian Islands)- The east coast experiences a distinct rainy season from November to February, with heavy monsoon rains. The best time to visit Malaysia’s east coast is between March and October, when the weather is drier and ideal for beach activities and diving.

West Coast (Langkawi, Penang): The west coast enjoys reasonably balanced weather year-round, but the best time to visit is from December to February, when it is drier and less humid.

Malaysian Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak)

Borneo experiences two main seasons: the dry season (March to October) and the wet season (November to February). The dry season is the best time for jungle trekking, wildlife spotting and diving.
