The Charm of Chiang Mai's Old City

Create a truly unique experience in Thailand.

Chiang Mai’s Old City, sitting in the mountainous northern part of Thailand and the second largest city after Bangkok, is a place where history and modernity coexist perfectly.

Nestled within its ancient walls lies a world of cultural richness, spiritual significance, and a vibrant local lifestyle.

Walk the Old City of Chiang Mai

Walking the streets of the Old City is, of course, a must. Inside the Old City square, you’ll find plenty of pretty streets, boutique hotels, tiny coffee shops, temples, and many massage spots, all surrounded by a canal.

The city was founded in 1296 as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom. Its city walls and moat were built to protect against invading forces, particularly from neighboring Burma. Designed with spiritual and astrological guidance, the walls and gates served as physical barriers and symbolic guardians of the city.

And if you require a break, just stop at one of the many cute coffee shops to enjoy local Chiang Mai coffee — it is very delicious. Of course, you can’t miss visiting one or more of the temples. There is certainly no lack of them inside the Old City.
