Malaysia on a Budget: How Much Does a Trip Really Cost?
Malaysia is a beautiful country. It’s famous for its vibrant city life, symphony of cultures, delicious food, and exciting activities, with modern skyscrapers and rainforests—all for an affordable price.
Malaysia has everything you could need from a travel destination, all at an affordable price. It boasts one of the world’s finest cuisines, some of the most stunning beaches, and some of the most impressive wildlife. There are modern cities, lush rainforests, world-class street art, a vibrant culture, and friendly locals. People who skip over it don’t know what they’re missing!
Settle down and make yourself a cozy cup of teh tarik. This budget breakdown will cover how much accommodation, transportation, activities, and food cost.
I won’t be including the flight cost into and out of Malaysia, as this will vary significantly based on where you’re arriving from.
Accommodation in Malaysia:
A night in a decent, clean, mid-range property in a central location usually costs around $30–$70. If hostels aren’t your choice, you can still find several amazing hotel and homestay options for $50–$100.
Transportation in Malaysia:
Choose accommodation close enough to attractions so that you can walk wherever you need to go. On the odd occasion when you need to travel further, Grab (the Southeast Asian Uber equivalent) comes in handy and doesn’t cost much.
Activities in Malaysia:
One of the best things about traveling in Malaysia is that you can have an amazing time without spending much on tourist activities.
Favorite memories often involve exploring the myriad of street art, architecture, stunning natural attractions, and, of course, eating all the food.
Here’s a breakdown of some favorite attractions in Malaysia and their respective costs:
