Bangladesh is an amazing country in South Asia!
This country has a rich history as well as great beauty. Bangladesh is called the “Land of Rivers”; there are 700 rivers here.
In 1971, Bangladesh became independent from Pakistan through a bloody war. The country is progressing day by day by fighting against poverty, natural disasters, and overpopulation.
Almost 200 million people live here. It is the eighth most populous country in the world.
Today, we will talk about 5 things that will give you a clear idea about Bangladesh.
1. Agriculture
Bangladesh is an agricultural country, with 75% of the population directly involved in agriculture.
The most surprising thing is that 62% of Bangladesh’s land is cultivable, which is more than in any other country.
Rice, wheat, mangoes, and jute are the main crops here.
2. River
A big surprise is that Bangladesh has more than 700 rivers, big and small. That’s why this country is called the “Land of Rivers.”
Two of the largest rivers of the South Asian continent — the Ganga (Padma) and the Brahmaputra — flow into Bangladesh.
Also, rivers like the Yamuna, Meghna, Karnaphuli, Buriganga, Madhumati, Teesta, Atrai, Nabaganga, and many others flow through the country.
These rivers play a special role in the lives of the people of Bangladesh and contribute to their agriculture, transportation system, and economic development.
3.Cox’s Bazar
Cox’s Bazar — many people think that Cox’s Bazar is the largest beach in the world.
This is both right and wrong, because the largest sea beach in the world is Praia do Cassino, which is called “Cassino” in Portuguese and is located in Brazil on the South Atlantic Ocean.
So why is Cox’s Bazar called the largest sea beach in the world?
Because Cox’s Bazar is the largest uninterrupted natural sandy sea beach in the world.
It means the beach has uninterrupted sandy land with no obstacles such as mountains, forests, or fertile land.
Cox’s Bazar Beach is 120 km long and uninterrupted.
This is the reason why Cox’s Bazar is considered the largest unbroken beach in the world.
One more thing — Cox’s Bazar is internationally recognized as the world’s largest natural beach.
Because of this unique advantage, millions of tourists come to visit Cox’s Bazar every year.
4.The Sundarbans
The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world. (Mangroves are a type of plant that can grow in saltwater, mudflats, and coastal areas.) There is a type of tree in the Sundarbans called the Sundari tree, which is why the forest is called the Sundarbans. The Sundarbans is located primarily in Bangladesh, as 66% of the area lies in the Khulna division of Bangladesh, while the remaining 34% is in West Bengal, India.
The Sundarbans is home to one of the most famous tigers, specially known as the Royal Bengal Tiger.
The roar of this tiger can be heard from a distance of about 3 kilometers.
In addition, the Sundarbans is home to 290 species of birds, 120 species of fish, 42 species of mammals, 35 species of reptiles, 8 species of amphibians, and 453 species of wildlife in total.
This is the reason for the strong tourist attraction to the Sundarbans, and thousands of people visit every year.
In 1997, UNESCO recognized the Sundarbans as a World Heritage Site.
5.The Bay of Bengal
The Bay of Bengal is the largest bay in the world.
It is in the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean.
The Bay of Bengal is located on the southern side of Bangladesh.
All the big rivers of Bangladesh come and merge into this bay.
Not only Bangladesh, but several big rivers of the Asian continent also join the Bay of Bengal.
The Bay of Bengal is surrounded by Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and some other countries.
Cox’s Bazar, Kuakata, and St. Martin’s Island of Bangladesh are located near this bay.
Note that the Bay of Bengal is the only sea border of Bangladesh.
Therefore, the Bay of Bengal has a special role in the development of Bangladesh.
